The service

PSD aims to serve the needs of those who manage the surfaces upon which games are played and legends are created. Keeping natural grass healthy is the core of our existence, though our expertise extends far beyond natural turf. With due awareness of the science of synthetic sports surface production and usage, PSD includes guidance to best practices for all surfaces. Running the whole sporting gamut - golf, soccer, rugby, tennis, cricket, bowls, horse racing - PSD boasts the ultimate expertise.

The site audit

By taking the multi-disciplined services of PSD on board, the developer or club committee contemplating extension or new build will reap the benefit of PSD feasibility studies.

Sound advice can only be given after a thorough investigation and so the first step is to determine existing and potential problems. We do this by undertaking an extensive audit of the area concerned. A thorough scientific training and practical experience of many new developments means that the PSD site audit identifies the problems to be found on a new site. This initial audit also helps to formulate a cost effective specification, thereby reducing unpleasant surprises later in the project.

The facility audit

The PSD facility audit examines, evaluates and analyses conditions on the existing course or pitch. Once problems are identified the resources can be allocated to rectify and improve. Identifying not only the problem but working as part of the facility team to provide the solution is the great strength of the PSD approach.

After the initial audit the PSD team can continue to help by monitoring progress and assisting on-site maintenance teams to maximise presentation and use.

From start to finish PSD can provide the helping hand necessary to identify and overcome technical difficulties, working with you to ensure success.

The documentation

Once a thorough investigation has been undertaken and a course of action decided by the Client, PSD can prepare all the necessary documentation to go out to tender.

Tender documents usually include conditions of contract, specification, bill of quantities, form of tender and all necessary drawings. If needed, PSD associates can also provide architectural, quantity surveying and planning supervisor services.

Having prepared the documents, they can then be sent to the competent sportsturf contractors to price. On their return, the quotations can be assessed by PSD to ensure that the prices submitted deal with all aspects of the work required.

SIte monitoring

After appointing the contractor, PSD can either act as project manager or help support the project manager by inspecting the work on site at critical times.

Normally PSD do not act as clerk of work on a day to day basis, but provide technical support as and when needed to ensure that the works are progressing as planned.

PSD also monitor and approve materials used on site by using the services of European Turfgrass Laboratories Ltd of Stirling.

The maintenance period

New sportsturf constructions need to be grown-in before they are ready for play. PSD provide detailed maintenance programmes for either the contractor or the in-house team to follow, in order to maximise grow-in potential. In addition, the PSD team help support those undertaking the maintenance work to ensure that it is progressing as expected. PSD take regular soil analyses in order to check the nutrient status of the soil. This enables the maintenance programme to be fine tuned to maximise growth. A number of the PSD team are BASIS qualified, being members of the Register of Practitioners providing professional pesticide and plant nutritional advice.
